More than she bargained for

You often find little things of interest or valor down in the cracks of your couch, from pocket change to old crumbs, and the occasional TV remote. Sometimes, you find something more – like the case of the Spokane, Wash. woman who bought a secondhand couch and found a hungry but alive calico cat living inside.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The mysterious mewing in Vickie Mendenhall's home started about the time she bought a used couch for $27. After days of searching for the source of the noise, she found a very hungry calico cat living in her sofa.

Her boyfriend, Chris Lund, was watching TV on Tuesday night and felt something move inside the couch. He pulled it away from the wall, lifted it up and there was the cat, which apparently crawled through a small hole on the underside.

Talk about the unexpect— Twenty-seven bucks!?? *faints*

Okay, back to reality. Well, naturally she tried to contact the previous owner(s) of said couch to hand their cat back, and after a while Bob Killion of Spokane, the original owner of that couch, was reunited with his feline friend. He was probably alerted by the fact that his couch, donated Feb. 19, and his cat, Callie, disappeared at the same time.

And so, fellow readers, be sure to reach down into the cracks of your couch next time you're there, eh? You never know what you might find ... (As long as it's not a skull, you're fine. ;))
