It's totally not about the porn

No, for once I'm not being facetious. The University of Maryland's planned screening of a hardcore porno flick, in defiance to actions that constitute nothing short of censorships on the part of the government, is less about the sexual nature of the film, and more about shoving free speech and academic freedom in the nosy self-righteous gov't's face.

"What we're upset about is somebody is trying to control what goes on on campus. This is symbolic," said Liz Ciavolino, a sophomore who is active in the group Feminism Without Borders.

In response, one conservative state legislator revived his threat: If the porn flick is shown on campus, the university might just kiss some state dollars goodbye.

A university spokesman declined to comment last night.

The tale of the scheduled screening of "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge" has roiled the university's flagship campus and hit newspapers as far away as Australia.

I'm 100% for this – not only do they directly defy self-serving political figureheads, they even get some porn out of it. What's not to like?

The government has absolutely no right to decide what goes on in universities. That's for the student and administrative bodies to decide on their own parts.

I do see an awkward side to this though – boys will remember how excruciatingly embarrassing it was to suffer through a stiffie in the middle of class ... How will this play out, an entire auditorium viewing a hardcore porn flick?

What a bunch of stupid babies who are basically vomiting their strained squash. An educational facility is for just that, EDUCATION. Watching a 2.5 hour movie in no proper context has nothing to do with that. It's just their protest/getting off to themselves 'defying' authority' even more than to the porn. I'm so happy that children don't rule the world, yet I'm afraid for this generation.

... Once again you succeed hilariously well at totally missing the point. :P
