Only hours after I heard of the tragic killing of a 9-year-old boy by his older brother following a videogame dispute which led to a shotgun blast, here's this new report about a toddler being shot in the chest – again by a shotgun – and again by a 12-year-old older boy. And again, it was due to an idiotic careless father's placement of a lethal weapon where children could easily access it. This insane and tragic loss of innocent lives has got to stop, for Christ's sake ...
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—A man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for illegally storing a gun at an East Palo Alto home that a 12-year-old boy used to fatally shoot a toddler. At Wednesday's hearing, 34-year-old Sergio Sanchez pleaded no contest to one count of illegally storing a firearm as part of a deal with prosecutors. In exchange, prosecutors dropped an alternative count of possession of a firearm by an ex-felon.
Sanchez has been in custody since turning himself in the day after the shooting.
Authorities say Sanchez was visiting the family of the toddler and had stashed his .22-caliber rifle in the garage. They say a 12-year-old boy found the rifle, thinking it was a toy, and accidentally shot 2-year-old Andrew Grewe in the chest.
The defense attorney says Sanchez is remorseful for what happened.
"Remorseful"? "Remorseful"? Excuse me, but if all you feel, after a boy shoots and kills another one because you were too fucking stupid to put your gun in a safe place (or owning a gun to begin with), is "remorseful", then clearly you don't have anywhere near the amount of conscience you should as a human. If my gun had been used by a kid to accidentally shoot and kill a toddler, I don't think I'd be able to think coherently for a while. I'd be a fucking mess. (And that's if I even had a gun to begin with.)
Goddammit, why the fuck is that ridiculously outdated and seriously dangerous Second Amendment still there!? You can live without guns in your houses, you lunatics!
Thankfully the moron has been thrown in jail for a while. I would like to extend my wishes that anyone who ever sells him a weapon again should be sued.
I need to calm down. This sort of senseless loss of life brought about by idiocy and sheer utter irresponsibility is getting to me.
