Man, I'm surprising myself

I never thought I'd be the type to enter a blogging binge just for one stupid scandal – in this case, the affair about David Letterman's jokes referring to the Palins and their daughter. There's just something so ridiculous (and unfair) about it all, I just wanna comment more on it. So here I go.

Not only is Sarah Palin demanding an apology from Letterman to "young women across the country" (*snort*), but now, some self-righteous New York lawmaker, Republican Brian Kolb, is pushing for the CEO of CBS himself to actually fire Letterman from the Late Show, ending his nearly 30-year-long career in the midst of a pathetic mess of idiocy and oversensitivity, for his remarks.

New York State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, a Republican, is calling on the CEO of CBS to fire David Letterman for crude comments he made about Sarah Palin and her daughter.

In the letter to CBS chief Les Moonves, Kolb said he took Letterman to task for the "shockingly inappropriate" jokes.

“As the proud father of a daughter, and as a husband, I wanted Mr. Moonves to hear from me directly about Mr. Letterman’s disparaging remarks," Kolb said in a written statement.

“Firing Mr. Letterman would send a clear message that CBS will not tolerate any of its employees — even an established media figure like Mr. Letterman — making demeaning and degrading comments about women.”

The request came after the late-night host stopped short of apologizing for "jokes" he had made about Palin, the former Republican vice presidential nominee, and her family, including one that referred to her daughter being "knocked up" by New York Yankees baseball star Alex Rodriguez.

How these morons can get so overly offended over such relatively harmless jokes, I really don't know. If someone joked about my daughter being a slut, I probably wouldn't exactly be cheering your comedic talents on, but I sure as well wouldn't be spitting at them, either, because it will have been a joke, which is not something anyone with half a brain should take seriously.

Seriously: get over it, you oversensitive twits. Calling for CBS to terminate Letterman's illustrious career just because some thin-skinned crybabies can't handle a few little pokes from a sharp comedian's stick is beyond ridiculous; it's insane. And the worst part: I have no doubt in my mind that this Kolb boob could very well succeed at costing Letterman his career. Never underestimate the influence of an indignant, idiotic and self-righteous right-winger politician.

However, some of the reaction to this has been, if not amusing, definitely telling:

The host later invited Palin and her husband to appear on “The Late Show,” a request they vehemently rejected.

"The Palins have no intention of providing a rating's boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show," the Alaska governor's office said in a written statement Thursday. "Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman."

... What, are they afraid Letterman's gonna pounce on her and rape her on-stage or something? Or that his evil glowing eyes and crooked smile will scare her into unconsciousness? Now this is just getting pathetic.

On Friday, the Alaska governor said Letterman owes an apology to young women across the country for the joke.

"I would like to see him apologize to young women across the country for contributing to kind of that thread that is throughout our culture that makes it sound like it is OK to talk about young girls in that way — where it's kind of OK, accepted and funny to talk about statutory rape," she said. "It's not cool. It's not funny."

I do hope she doesn't expect that Letterman will actually cave in to her stupidity and whinyness and will give a gushy-mushy "I'm sowwy" on the air? We all know she isn't exactly the brightest bulb in the box, but to actually expect Letterman to stop down to that level and give an apology he doesn't mean (and shouldn't, either) is just delusional.

I also like how she keeps referring to his jokes as being about "raping" her daughter. What a word-twisting bitch. He never even mentioned the word "rape". He said "knocked up"; ie., fallen pregnant. I hardly see how she can equate pregnancy with rape. But then – she's Sarah Palin.

Clearly, this whole mess is nothing but fabricated outrage in order to try and boost Sarah Palin's image to "caring and protective mother and family woman" or something, from her current status as "attention-seeking dweeb". However, with this "scandal", I'm sure the "attention-seeking" label will never leave her forehead again. This is not mothering she's doing; it's playing the role of the baby, whining for attention to keep her grasp on the spotlight, which by now must really be aching to roll away from her.
